Cannabis and skincare - why it’s a perfect match.
“Will your products get me high?” is probably the most common question we are asked. The answer is no, they won't get you high. But. They will have a mesmerizing effect on your skin, and that’s all thanks to the properties and effects of Cannabis Sativa seed oil.
Cannabis Sativa seed oil helps your skin help itself
The oil from the cold pressed seeds is the main ingredient in all our topical products. The reason for this is that this magical oil helps your skin to balance its own natural oil production. If your skin happens to be too dry, it stimulates your skin to increase its oil production. While if the situation is the opposite it helps your skin to pare it back.
It doesn’t clog pores - not even a little
The comedogenic scale measures different oils’ tendency to clog pores. On a scale from 0 to 5, most oils come in as a 2 or above. A few oils score 1 (low risk of clogging pores) like Hazelnut oil, Cucumber seed oil and Camellia seed oil 1. Cannabis Sativa seed oil is one of extremely few oils that scores 0 on the scale (doesn’t clog pores at all). This fact together with the balancing act it performs for your skin makes it one of the best skincare and anti-aging agents in the world.
Other facts around these nuts that are... nuts
If you read the last episode you already know that the Cannabis Seeds are technically categorized as nuts. And so are a lot of facts about them. They are filled with Omega-3 and Omega-6, and the ratio between the two is the exact same ratio that your skin has between them. This is one of the reasons that your skin absorbs the oil quickly. Another staggering fact is that every single amino acid we humans need to live is found in these seeds naturally. Which is why people have been ingesting the seeds and the oil for thousands of years.
The oil from the seeds is naturally anti-inflammatory which helps combat signs of aging. And they are packed with antioxidants, especially vitamin E, which is a key ingredient in all high functioning face creams.
Old news
People have been familiar with the incredible properties of Cannabis Sativa seeds for a long, long time.
In 2737 BC (that’s almost 5000 years ago…) the Chinese emperor Shen-Nung was the first person that we know to discover the healing properties of cannabis. He is known to have extracted seed oil from the plant for pain treatment and made topical salves for treating skin rashes and irritation. We extend a big thank you to Shen-Nung. Without his discovery you might not be reading this right now.
Future news
Over the last 5000 years Cannabis has been a good friend to us humans when it comes to all kinds of things (read more here), but it does seem like skincare and inner balance (which we’ll cover in the coming episode) might very well be where we will take our relationship to the next level.
As scientific research on this plant has been outlawed during the entire era of science, we are just now scratching the surface of what this plant and its seeds can do for us.
