My Nighttime Skincare Routine

My biggest nighttime skincare secret is all about timing. No one feels like doing their routine once they’re already sleepy. My trick is to do it much earlier in the evening, even if I have to pull myself away from what I’m doing. Sometimes the hardest part is getting started. Once that cold water hits my face I’m ready to go. I believe in washing my face every night, even if I might not always feel like it. It doesn't have to be a long process but I feel better when I’ve gotten it over with. Masks are the new normal but they put stress on my skin. I use my nighttime routine as a moment to start fresh.
I double cleanse a couple of times a week (using Herb Essentials Cleansing Oil). I follow that with my favorite enzyme cleanser. Lately, I’ve been using a BHA toner which I apply using a cotton pad (another reason to wear sunscreen during the day). I wait about one minute before moving to the next step. I am a person who loves serums and alternate regularly. This depends on my skin concerns at the time or even the time of year. I will even mix serums from time to time. I apply with gentle pressing and tapping motions. This time of year is when I use moisturizer the most. I also find my skin feels weird if I don’t apply it at night. I never forget to include my neck, it’s the right thing to do. Every other night or so I will apply eye cream.
That’s a simple routine for me. Trust me, it can get rather drawn out at times. For the most part, I try to focus on the basics. I want to go to bed knowing I won’t wake up with a new issue. I think the older I get the more I prioritize practices like this. Although there are no guarantees, the long term results are worth the energy and time. Sleeping on my back also helps!
